Alexander Yoon

Biography

Alexander Yoon is an uniquely talented drummer and composer in Melbourne and is known for his ability to blend in multiple different styles producing compositions that cannot be narrowed down to one specific genre.

Having studied with the renowned Australian jazz drummer Mark Sutton, he made a mark in the Canberra music scene with his elastic but yet hypnotizing grooves. In his former band Wallflower, Alexander shared stages with the likes of Eskimo Joe, the Axis of Awesome, Los Corona and SAFIA. He played at Stonington Festival and Melbourne Town Hall in 2015 with a jazz big band that showcased his versatility as a drummer.

Alexander also expresses his philosophy through blogs and shows its practicality in music and sound. Having been brought up in two different cultural backgrounds(Korean & Australian), his compositions contain K pop-influenced melodies with jazz harmonies that are rooted in New York's Rn'B grooves, putting him in a unique place musically.

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" - Albert Einstein

so in musical application, "if you can't play it simply, you don't understand it well enough".
